Football Concussion Protocols

TFC are very excited to announce that Anthony Winter has kindly taken on the role of Concussion Coordinator for our club. Ant is very passionate about helping to support players/families whilst recovering from concussion. Anthony is a very valuable asset to the club but especially for our coaches/team managers and first aiders.
Below is how the role of the concussion officer will work. Team managers can you please ensure you forward this email on to all your first aiders.
Concussion Officer Role
= Central Point of Contact for all parties; Player / Coach / Team Manager and Medical.
*Concussion officer is not seen as someone to provide individual medical assessment / treatment.

First aider has absolute authority game day and is responsible for immediate management of injured player and recommendation to player/parent and coach pending on their assessment. This should not be challenged by any party.

Once initial management completed, Incident report to be completed by first aider and sent to relevant parties by the team manager (includes a copy to club concussion officer). Please forward incident report to Anthony by Sunday evening following the match via email: anthonywinter@y7mail.com

Concussion officer follows up each notification by 6pm on the Tuesday following game to injured players parents. Phone call may also be required from concussion officer to game day First Aider if further information is required.

Pending outcome of players symptoms/medical review, concussion officer discusses next stage of management with the player/ parents. If confirmed concussion diagnosis, concussion officer stays in contact with injured player for a minimum 21 days. (Ideally weekly phone call to check in) Concussion Officers role is to educate player/parents and ensure medical treatment is sought.

Players Medical certificate with clearance to return to play is provided to concussion officer. Concussion officer notifies team manager player can resume play.
